Privacy Policy
The short version
- A parent holds the family's only account. Kids never have accounts or email addresses.
- Your family's information syncs between your own devices, and no other family can see it.
- Once a day each device sends us, the developers, a summary of how the app is being used, so we can make it better.
- No ads, no tracking, and we never sell or rent anyone's data.
- A parent can delete the whole family account, and everything in it, from inside the app.
Who we are
Alien Brain is a family app where kids complete tasks, earn stars, spend them on rewards their parent sets up, and look after a virtual pet. It is made and operated by Andrii Bezmen ("we", "us"), 1001 Carroll Pkwy, Frederick, MD 21702, USA. Questions about this policy go to privacy@alienbrain.app.
Accounts
Only a parent signs up, with an email address and a password. Kids are profiles inside the parent's family, not accounts. A kid's own tablet joins the family with a one-time code that the parent creates; it does not need an email address or any other contact details.
What we collect
From the parent
- Email address and password, to sign in. The password is stored only as a secure hash.
- The parent's name as shown in the app.
Family information entered in the app
Entered by the parent, or by the kids on their own profiles:
- Kids' names and profile pictures (an emoji, or a photo the parent chooses).
- The 4-digit PINs that stop one family member using another's profile.
- Tasks, when they were done, stars earned and spent, rewards, challenges, achievements and the pet.
- Check-ins, if a kid uses them: a face picked for how they feel (for example "happy" or "tired"), and how strongly, on a scale of 1 to 10.
This is stored on each of the family's devices and on our server, so the parent's phone and a kid's tablet show the same thing. Only devices signed in to that family can read it.
The daily activity summary
Once a day, each device sends us a summary of how the family is using the app: each kid's first name, star balance and streak, the tasks and check-ins from that day, and totals for the last 14 days, together with the app version, the kind of device and a random identifier for that installation of the app. It never includes photos. We use it only to understand how the app is used and to improve it, and only the developers can read it.
Feedback you send us
If anyone in the family uses the in-app feedback button, we receive what they wrote, a screenshot if they attached one, the profile name, the screen they were on, the app version, the kind of device and the installation's random identifier.
What we do not collect
We do not collect location, contacts, advertising identifiers or browsing history, and the app does not use the camera or microphone. There are no ads, no third-party analytics and no tracking across other apps or websites.
How we use it
- To run the app and keep a family's devices in sync.
- To send account emails: sign-up and password-reset codes. We send no marketing email.
- To find and fix problems, and to decide what to improve, using the daily summaries and feedback.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, use it for advertising, or build profiles of anyone.
Children
Alien Brain is made for families, and kids use it under their parent's account. We collect information about a child only through the parent's account and the kid profiles the parent creates, and we never ask a child for an email address, phone number or other contact details. The parent controls every kid profile, and can change it, delete it, or delete the whole family account at any time.
Check-ins are shown to the parent as simple counts and trends. The app does not diagnose anything or give medical advice.
If you are a parent and want to review, change or delete what we hold about your child, email privacy@alienbrain.app, or delete the family account in the app.
Who else handles the data
We use a small number of service providers, only to run the app:
- Supabase hosts the database and the sign-in system, in the United States (Oregon).
- Resend delivers the sign-up and password-reset emails.
- Expo delivers app updates. Your device contacts Expo's servers to check for them.
- Apple distributes the app through the App Store.
We would otherwise share information only if the law required it.
How it is protected
Everything travels over encrypted connections. On our server, each family's data is walled off from every other family's, and the daily summaries and feedback can be read only by the developers. The profile PINs keep siblings out of each other's profiles on a shared device; they are a convenience, not a password, and are not a substitute for locking the device itself.
How long we keep it
Family information and daily summaries are kept for as long as the family account exists. Deleting the family account (in the app: Settings → Devices → Delete family account) permanently removes the family's information from our server, including the daily summaries, and signs out every device in the family. Copies in our hosting provider's routine backups are removed as those backups expire.
Feedback reports are kept as reports to the developers after an account is deleted. To have them deleted too, email us.
Your choices
- Delete the family account from inside the app at any time.
- Change a kid's details, or delete one kid and everything that is theirs, from that kid's settings in the parent area.
- Turn photo access or notifications off in your device's Settings; the app works without them.
- Email us to ask for a copy of your family's information, or to have anything deleted.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects what we collect or how we use it, we will tell parents before it takes effect.
